Blog Assignment 1

Blog assignment 1

When I began to think and speculate on the task, I thought it was very difficult to think of aspects of our daily life that I think and/ or hope will emerge, change or disappear. I think that society is constantly undergoing changes of various kinds.

Periods 1-5 years from now:
One thing I really hope will change in the near future is people's anti-social behaviors that have arisen in association with smart phones and Facebook. I have friends who can’t leave their home without them checking their Facebook before, yet they continue to check their Facebok page each quarter on their mobile, “God forbid that they would miss something”. You meet to socialize with your friends, but it ends up with everyone checking their mobiles.

There is absolutely no ill meant to people, but it feels a bit like the technology takes over man's place.

Periods 6-50 years from now:
I don’t know if everyone is aware of the fact that high school is not compulsory for adolescents in Sweden. That is something I really hope will change when I have children, high school will be mandatory in my home, but it would be nice to avoid that discussion. J
I personally think that it is wrong to allow children in such a young age to take such an important decision. When I was 15 years old I had no idea that I would become an economist, I wanted to become a lawyer. But today I know that if you don’t have a high school education as a starting point you can’t study and become whatever you would like. That is why I think it is important to have a high school education, which is the reason to why I hope that high school will be mandatory for our young adults, not just in my home, but all over Sweden.

This was a relatively difficult task, but the two things I wrote about above are what I hope will disappear and change over time.

  1. Intresting thought about high school. For me the thought never crossed my mind that I schuld skip high school. But every singel person is diffrent. I agree that its super hard to get a job you like if you dont keep going to school after you have finished ninth grade but maybe thats a part of the problem.

My cousin have no high school education but she is doing really good in life (not just with her personal life) but I'm ready to agree she is an exception.

As far as I see it, todays society is to focused with education. If you work as a lawyer off course you have to go to law school but a lot of professions dont need higher education but rather experience.

Some people are just not up to go to school for such a long time. Maybe it would be easier for them if they could learn hands on.

    But back to your point.

High school is more than a way to learn skills that you need for a certain university education or certain job. You learn basic things that make you function in society. So i agree it shuld be mandatory but I think it doesent have to be three years for those who are tired of school.

  2. First off, I’d like to say that it was two interesting thoughts; both the social behavior and the part about high school education.

When it comes to the smart phones issue, I couldn't agree more. I also have a lot of friends constantly checking their facebook, regardless the situation and the surroundings, which is really annoying. When you hang out with your friends you want to be able to chat and do stuff without all these facebook interruptions.

I had no idea that high school was optional in Sweden. For me, it was never a choice and I don't know anyone who hasn't a high school education. Since youths at the age of ~15 usually haven't got a clue about their future careers and getting a job at the age of 15 with no high school education would be nearly impossible I doubt that there are that many youths choosing not to go to high school. But if there are, I agree with you and high school shouldn't be optional.

    Cheers

  3. I can feel what do you eman by the extensive use of smartphones and apps such as Facebook. I totally agree that many a times people get too overboard with this use. We have learnt how to use the technology but there is still some time before we learn how to use it responsibly. In the restaurants and bars, sometimes, I have seen this happeneing. That a whole group sitting on a table is busy with their phones rather than talk and socialize.

I hope this habit does nopt become chronic and that people's obsession with stuff like Facebook is over.
